Has anyone made their own L-Boxx insert? OR Have any DIY insert tips?

I am aware you can buy 'Pick & Pluck' foam, but at nearly £30 inc P/P it's a little pricey especially if you add it to the cost of a new L-Boxx too. Perhaps the L- Boxx's should come with the foam or an anti-rattle matt as standard (?)

A few further questions / points for possible clarity:

• I am considering to L-Boxx up my entire powertool collection and create some custom drawers for them to clip into at the workshop - anyone else done this?

• Am I right in reading that Bosch aren't going to do retrospective inserts for some of their older tools and current mid range products? EG I'd like to buy a GKF600 Palm Router but it doesn't appear to be supplied in an L-Boxx or with an inlay option- will I have to wait for an update for this tool?

• I've looked at the Sortimo product catalouge which has lots more variety than currently available through Bosch, however I've read that Sortimo are only intersted in folk wanting to kit out an entire van with racking or a fleet of vans for that matter.

Currently I own two L-Boxx's. One for a 10.8v Drill/Impact driver set and another with the assortment pot set with the polystyrene top liner, I'm very happy with these buy a little hesitant to commit entirely tp L-Boxx as of yet

Any thoughts, tips, guidance much appreciated.

Cheers

I thought I'ld just pip in here.

As you know the L-Boxx system is originally from Sortimo stacking system ( Parent company) Primarily a system built for vehicle storage solutions. I'm sure the current van racking options can be installed in a workshop. Infact our training center has a number installed. I'll have to ask if it was custom or the standard sortimo system retrofitted.

As far as I know you are correct in thinking we are NOT producing inlays for old tools. Typically an inlay for a machine will not be created until there is an L-Boxx version of it. So IF the GKF 600 is sold in an L-Boxx version in the future then the inlay will become available. Sorry.

There are many more L-Boxx solutions coming out this year, I'll no doubt be posting them up here and on facebook.

Bob.

Thats great, cheers Bob... I saw on another post that a plunge unit for the GKF600 is too be released in the UK in April...would that be seperate of perhaps part of a new kit in an L-Boxx?

Looking forward to seeing some of the new L-Boxx solutions in 2013...Bosch have definately upped their game in the last few years...I've more Blue than Green in my collection these days!

That's right. It will be offered stand alone as well as with a GKF 600 as a bundled kit.
You will be pleased to know that an L-Boxx version of the kit will be available. It is not confirmed if it will be a size 3 or 4 L-Boxx.

Good to know. DIY tools have their place but there is nothing like a bit of professional kit :)

Was experimenting today with my two L-Boxx's (as mentioned above) and it would of been great if the driver set had come with the modular styrene lid liner like the accessory pot set, as then you could keep Bit accessories in the case without them flying all over the place when the L-Boxx is carried as a brief case. TBH I'm supprised it didn't come with one, they must cost pennies to make and it would protect the tools when shipped ;).

IMHO if Bosch can nail the L-Boxx experience, making the the Sortimo system available and affordable (lost leader?) especially the linnings, then they'll be onto a loyalty winner, with Sortimo. I'm sure there are plenty of instances where auxially uses such as carrying finishes, paperwork, hand tools, componets etc, testers not to mention the re housing of existing Bosch Tools.

In my experience when consumers start to get into a system then they start to become even more loyal to a brand and unless really pushed, won't swap. Apple are a good example with compatibility, docking and inter brand connectivity. Oh and the 'Green' ones too (Psst!...not the DIY range! ;) with their systainer system of which I have a couple, only because their patents have probably stopped others from copying.

Cheers
