Hi friends. I have searched on the internet but couldn't find any usefull information. I want to use one of my 18V CoolPack battery to power my soldering iron (TS100). But i dont want to damage it for discharging deeply. Does GBA 18V CoolPack batteries have any voltage protection?

There is written in my drill user manual drill has ECP (electronic cell protection) for heating and over charging or discharging. But there is no information about which tool has ECP.. Drill or battery?

If the battery has no protection, can you give me any advice how can i use the battery with my soldering iron. I can check the voltage often with the multimeter. After every use.. I am not soldering for hours actually. I wont let it to go under 18V. Is it enough to protect my battery?

Thanks for your help already.

Hello erenersan.
I've just been looking through the little booklets that come with the Bosch battery packs and, although not explicitly stated, it does appear that the ECP is indeed incorporated in the battery pack itself. Primarily designed as a way to prevent overheating, it does also serve to protect against deep discharge.
Not entirely sure what you were planning to do/use in order to power the TS100 soldering iron (looks a neat bit of kit - I'll have to look more into these!) with a Coolpack battery but I'd recomend buying a Bosch GAA 18 V-24 USB charging port (picture below). Inbetween the two USB ports is a DC pin type port you often find on laptops etc. It's there to allow the GAA/battery pack to be connected to Bosch's heated jacket. It can provide 18V at 2.2amps. Don't know enough about the TS100 yet to know if this would be suffiient but, it does seem the most obvious and safe way to connect a Coolpack to a TS100.
Also, just in case the ECP doesn't work with the battery alone (should you use custom wiring or some such), using the battery with the GAA and a proper DC cable will ensure that your cells are protected.
Would love to know if this setup works.
