I made my own 18V dab+/ BT jobsite radio. I call it the BoomBoxx.

I have seen the threads here dating back to 2012 asking for a dab jobsite radio.

Here in Norway the FM radio network closed down last year. After that I waited patiently for bosch to release an 18V dab+/ BT jobsite radio.

I got tired of waiting so I made my own.
It has a dab+/BT adapter. I salvaged the charging circuit from an old charger I had laying around. So when the BoomBoxx is plugged in, it also charges the battery.

Hello friisern.
Good job! Just the kind of tool hack I love. I like how you incorporated the charger.
Do you get vibration between the lid and box when it's closed and playing? Some adhesive foam strips where the two meet would be a good adition if so.
I thought about doing something similar with an old DAB I had. Unfortunately that radio died so, having to buy another anyway went with the little Festool one.
Honestly can't see why every other tool manufacturer has a DAB option but the response from Bosch/BOB on here has always been they have no plans to release one - not seeing the need or market. Madness!
Thanks for sharing the pics.
All the best.

I mounted the plastic sheet to the lid with anti-vibration mounts, see picture. However i do get some rattling from the handles if I turn up the bass. I expected that simply because its a toolbox, but that's a trade-off im willing to make for the ability to stack it with my other toolboxes, and for the attention it gets on the job site. Often people will ask where they can buy it. Then I have to give them the bad news that bosch don't make one.

Ah I see. I love it.
When Bosch released the LED in an L-Boxx I wondered if they might continue this route, maybe putting their radio in one or even a vac. Oh well.

This is a great adaptation!

surely bosch should be very embarrassed  with their position on this whole radio issue. Instead of doing something that would be useful they waste time with “connected tools”…..  there was another post in the forum on how useless this “connected tools” approach is in real life….
The music box these days must be
·         Lboxx stackable (smaller 102 type if possible!)
·         Have wifi connection
·         Have Bluetooth
·         slot for sim card to allow own connection
·         DAB,
·         charger for 12v, 14v, 18v
·         MUST be also be fed by  12v, 14v, 18v
·         USB sockets,
·         AUX,
·         have solar charging
·         3-4m detachable power cord
·         4-power socket outlets to use as splitter (RCD outlets?)
·         IP 68 / dustproof

I recently got a new CAT phone…. This is a “just” a phone, BUT has heat camera/scanner, laser distance measure, air monitor, waterproof, drop proof….   This is where we are all (apart from bosch) heading – devices that do everything, help with everything, adaptable to everything…

Please, bosch – wake up to the real words and consumer needs…. Surely this forum should be one of the main driving force behind your R&D department….  Try and dream a bit bigger!

Do I feel great using my bosch drill, impact, lboxx, light, saw, etc, etc – YES!   Do I frequently regret buying into a brand of VERY LIMITED line up of tools and machinery compared to other manufacturers – YES!     please bosch – do not alienate your customers…

how come some can produce a radio and some can not.....   jus saw DWST1-81079 and this is getting fairly close to what many many many people were asking for here for a very very very long time....

radio, stackable, charger, waterproof-ish....   good start, can add few improvements and you are there!
