Sam Sunderland's Around the World Record Attempt

BOSCH PROFESSIONAL IS THE OFFICAL TOOL SPONSOR FOR SAM SUNDERLAND’S RECORD BREAKING ATTEMPT

After an extraordinary effort across thousands of miles and multiple continents, Sam Sunderland has taken the difficult decision to end his Around the World record attempt.

During the third leg of the journey, in remote outback Australia, Sam's motorcycle sustained damage that required repairs. Due to the location and the time needed to complete and test those repairs, it became clear that the record could no longer be achieved.

As a result, the decision was made to conclude the attempt.

This wasn't a decision I took lightly. I'm incredibly disappointed not to be able to finish the challenge, especially for reasons outside of my control. We gave everything to this project and I'm proud of what the team achieved along the way.

The challenge was set to see Sam attempt the fastest circumnavigation of the globe on a motorcycle, covering more than 18,000 miles across five continents while pushing the limits of endurance, logistics and both rider and machine.

While the record attempt has come to an end, the journey produced unforgettable moments and demonstrated the determination, resilience and spirit that have defined Sam's career.

At Bosch Professional Power Tools we knew we just had to be the official Power Tool sponsor and provide our support to Sam in this world record attempt.

We provided him with the essentials to overcome any bumps that might occur whilst he was on the road, including a range of hand tools, accessories and the best of our 18V range.

The record Sam was challenging was set by Britons Kevin and Julia Sanders, who hold the official Guinness World Records adjudicated title. Of the feat, Kevin Sanders said: “Records are meant to be broken. We did this more than twenty years ago - Sam’s going to face a whole set of new challenges compared to back then.” The Sanders’ have supported Sam’s feat by providing insight into their record-breaking journey, and the parameters required to make a true circumnavigation. “As people with a business within the motorcycle community, it’s always exciting to see riders take on new challenges, or challenge old ones! We’re really keen to see how Sam does.

Having you guys on board is mega! To know we’ve got the right tools for the job. I hope the tools aren’t needed too much! It’s nice to know they are there! With all the power tools I won’t be standing on the side of the road long!

Equipping a Champion

Speed is only half the battle, because when you are racing across multiple continents and pushing through sixteen-hour days of absolute physical and mental exhaustion, both your mind and your equipment are tested to their absolute limits. In a candid conversation at the Red Bull London offices, we sat down with Sam to dig into the intense mental grit required to become the fastest person alive, while also looking at the raw reality of a journey where there is simply zero room for error. For Sam, conquering this world-first achievement means having an ultimate partner in reliability, which is why we introduced him to Bosch Professional Power Tools.
